Undeleting a member's posts

Service: Eve Community

Another question about The Grammar Exchange. Please see this message from one of the newsgroup moderators. What can be done to retrieve the messages?

"Is there any way to recover deleted posts? A member named "weave" asked me to delete his account today, and I honored his request, approximately six hours ago, using the "Delete User's Posts" function. It was the first time I'd ever used that function, and it appears to have deleted, along with all his posts, all the discussion topics he started, all replies included. The vast majority of the replies were my own, but there are plenty of exceptions.

Needless to say, I did not think the action would result in deletion on that scale, and I should like very much, if possible, to reverse the action. So far I have been unable to find a way to do so in the Eve control panel."

Thanks,

Barry

Hi Barry,

There is no way to undelete the deletion. Once you delete a user and select to also delete his or her posts, topics, and uploads they are gone. The only thing that we can do is restore the site from a backup made the night before this deletion occurred.   That restores the site to the state it was at the point in time when the backup was made.  Anything added or posted to the site after that period would be lost.

We charge $40 to do the restore and we will need to know exactly when this happened so that we can go through the backups archive and pull the right one.  The backups rotate, we do not keep more than a few days, so we would need to know pretty soon.

Hi Barry,

We have 9/3 which is the only backup we have previous to 9/10.  Again, restoring from a backup is an all or nothing process.  We cannot restore part of the content or just certain posts. The entire site will be set back to the time that the snapshot was made.

Please let me know if you want to proceed.

Hi, Barry:

We've billed the card on file for the restore fee, and you should have received a receipt for that just now.

Thanks,

Lori
