Reporting inconsistencies

Service: Hoop.la

Hello!

While running reports, the team has noticed a few minor inconsistencies that we were hoping you may be able to clear up. Our percent of active/total members don't seem to line up. Also, the registrations and total members are wonky.

Can you help?

I'm sorry, don't seem to line up?  Just to be sure we're on the same page this is what we see.

1128/1774 is 63.59%   What are we missing?

And what do you mean by wonky on the registrations and total members?

I believe we are. If you have the timeframe set for the last 30 days-- and have the advanced reporting averages tab open: Active member during period= 1,127 and percentage of active members to total members= 62.72%.

But when you go to the Health tab, with the time frame set for the last 30 days, Total Unique, Active Members For Period: 1,121
Total Registrations For Period: 1,459

1,121/1,459=78.83%

Well, wait. You're doing new registrations, not total members.

1,459 is total new registrations for that period, which is not the total number of users on the site.  Total members entirely is 1774, of which 1,121 were active during that 30 day period.

There isn't a specific pre-generated report for that, but what I do is go to the members search page, and then under registration date put in the time period you're looking for.  The results will give you the number.

For instance, the results for the month of December, after Dec 1, and before Jan 1 is 144 members registered that month. And to get the total number of users on the site up until Jan1 I changed the registered after to some fictitious time before the site was open, and before to be Jan1.  So, on New Years the site had a total of 153 members. (results)  And on Feb 1 there were a total of 1198 members. (results).

The one thing to remember is that the numbers displayed on the Averages tab of the Analytics page is a "last 30 days" which is floating, where these results that I posted above were for specific time periods.

got it?

Thank you that makes sense for total members. Even still, unless we are missing something the math is still incorrect.

When setting all dates to before 2/1
Total members= 1198.
Active members=897.
897/1198=74.87%

The averages tab claims that before 2/1 the percentage of Active Members to Total Members
49.15%

I forgot to address this issue on our call yesterday. It is turning out to be a harder problem to solve that it seems like it should.  I don't have an ETA yet for an update.

Do you advise that we calculate the numbers manually in the meantime? This is a key metric that we are using to determine community growth and engagement MoM.

Thanks! And please keep me in the loop on any progress here.

I would, yes.  You need the data, and as long as you do it the same way each month for consistency it will work out.

I will definitely let you know as soon as anything changes.
