Members whose last visit is "N/A"

Service: Hoop.la

Was looking a list of "hard bounces" generated by mailchimp for an email blast we sent to our registered members.  Saw a LOT of members on the bounce list who registered years ago, but whose Last Visit appears as "N/A" in their profile.

Wondering how they got like that, and how to get rid of them.  Can't filter the member data for "N/A."

Hi Neil,

A member will have a Last Visit of "N/A" if they've never signed in successfully to your site. A few possible explanations:

1) Since your site requires email verification, they may never have verified the email after registration or never returned to sign in to the site after registration.

2) Since you came from Eve originally, it's possible some of the really old members imported from Eve may have never had a last visit.

3) If your site allows posting new content by email, members can post via email, which will register them a "lite" user account. In this scenario, they will never have visited the site. If you don't support guests posting new content by email, then this wouldn't apply.

I do see value in being able to search by members who have a Last Visit of "N/A", so that's an option we'll consider for future development improvements. For now, you're right: there is no way to filter the member list to identify just those members.

Hope that helps!

Brian

Thanks for the thoughts.  I suspected some "old platform" carryover issue.  But...

Related oddity:
We have 6 members who registered RECENTLY, are premium members, and yet, are both N/A and have an unverified email:

Status: active
Joined:  · Last Visit: N/A · Points: 27 · Rank: 1,968 ·Email Verified: No

Status: active
Joined:  · Last Visit: N/A · Points: 27 · Rank: 1,968 ·Email Verified: No

fyi: I believe we don't allow posting by email unless you're in a certain permission circle.

Hi Neil,

You have a link to order a premium membership in your News Flash to:

http://www.rotation.org/order?...F%2Fwww.rotation.org

That will allow users to sign up for a premium membership while registering on the same form. If they never verify their email address after registration/purchase, they will be premium members without a verified email address with a Last Visit of N/A.

Hope that helps,

Brian

So if they don't verify, what happens?

I assume since they are paying customers that they are visiting. And when they login they are seeing a not verified message.

Does that message refer them to the verification email they never responded to? The email may have been spam trapped.

If if we could filter for N/A, then we could at least verify for them. Since we have their money it seems the right thing to do

Hi Neil,

Since your site requires verification, they can't login until they verify. If they attempt to login, they will get a message indicating they must first verify before they login (with instructions to do so). So, I wouldn't assume just because they paid that they are visiting and accessing the premium content.

As mentioned previously, we will consider supporting searching for members who have never visited in a future release. I don't have an ETA as to if/when that might be available, however, as it's not currently scheduled for release. For now, you should be able to search for premium members and sort by registration date to find premium members who have joined recently but may not have visited (by scanning Last Visit).

Regards,

Brian
