try this in your custom css.

.default-member-avatar-container circle,
.default-member-avatar-container rect { fill: gainsboro !important; }


You will want to update the Email CSS for "default_avatar" to match whatever color you set on the website as well.

background-color: gainsboro !important;



In this example gainsboro is a greyish color. You'll find a large listing of colors to chose from here.   That was the first thing I found. You can probably find a few better color charts if this doesn't give you a color that appeals.

I have edited the post since your last reply.  The css for email part of my answer is updated since I posted it. You'll want to add the background-color line to whatever you already have in the box for default_avatar in the email css.
