Extra spaces getting inserted during editing

Service: Hoop.la

Hi, I've been having this issue for a very long time and figured it was time to report it. If I edit a post (anywhere, in the blog or forums) multiple times, the following symbol (" ") gets inserted into the code whenever I add a new space (I think). At least it gets added at editing points. When I view the final text in editing mode (before publishing), these extra spaces don't reveal. But when I go to post, they do reveal, which can lead to weird line breaks (premature line breaks) when viewing on different devices.

This leads to lots of extra work in going back into the code on each post and eliminating the " "s and just replacing them with a space. When I do this, all the weird breaks get removed, but this takes a ton of time with each post, and then more time to make sure I didn't miss any by viewing posts on different devices.

What's going on here and can/when can it be corrected? Thanks!

Hi Julia,

I wish I had a better answer, but this is browser behavior. It has to do with the way your browser interacts with TinyMCE (our WYSIWYG toolbar) when you switch between the visual and code-editing modes of viewing. They (TinyMCE) have been considering adding something that would expose the "invisible" codes in the editing mode, but it hasn't happened yet.

Meanwhile, your solutions would be to try using a different browser (I think Firefox is better for this than Chrome), or do your editing in visual mode.

I work in Safari, and I do my editing in visual mode already - if, by that, you mean not by looking at the underlying code. I only get into the code to correct spacing issues when the reveal upon publishing.

I guess I'll try Firefox, though hate having to download another browser.

Thanks.
