Disabling Members but Keeping Profile Intact

Service: Hoop.la

Is there a way to disable a member that wants to "suspend" their membership with us but I would like to keep their profile intact so that it does not have to be recreated when/if they return to our community?

One way I have found is to "Ban" a member however the message they receive is awful and I have not yet found a way to edit that message in total.

Please advise.

Hi Greg-

See this blog about the member "deactivation" feature:

https://www.socialstrata.com/b...deactivation-release

I'm not sure if you have enabled support for member deactivation on your site already, but, if not, follow the instructions on that blog post for doing so.

Note that only the user can deactivate their own account... you cannot do it for them (they will see an option to "deactivate" on their profile page, once you add support for the option in your control panel).  Once deactivated, the person can easily re-activate later (and their old profile info will return when they do so).

Hope this helps!

Thank you I will look at the link.  The problem is that we "deactivate" members when they no longer want to be a member and do not pay their fee.  Many times however our members come back and I was hoping to keep their profile intact.  A member that decides not to renew with us would not be interested in "deactivating" themselves.  So, we can delete them, but that dumps their profile which I am trying to avoid.  Does this make sense?  Any additional advice.

Thanks.

Hi, Greg:

In that case, you probably DO want to ban them...but you can change the email that they receive using Wordlets. In the control panel under Design, choose Wordlets. Click the "Edit" link by your Default Wordlet set, and then search for "ban". The results returned will include the text for the email, which you can edit as you like (make sure that you retain the variables in the wordlet, however). Update your wordlets at the bottom of the page, and you should be set.

Note that the email actually includes 3 different wordlets: the text itself, the email title ("You have been banned from {0}"--the variable will be the name of your community), and also the title bar (Membership Banned). You can adjust all three of those.

Hope that helps!

Lori,

Well, I thought your instructions were simple enough, however...

When I search for "ban" when I edit the default Wordlet set I got no less that 37 different wordlets.  Attached is a snippet of these.  I don't see explicitly Ban Memebr Test, Ban member email title, ban member title bar (or anything like these) within the 37 wordlets returned by the search.  This doesn't seem like this should be some complicated/confusing.  Can you help?

Hi, Greg:

It might be easier if you search for "banned", but I can tell you the three wordlets you are looking for:

1. You have been banned...

2. Membership Banned

3. This is to inform you that the administrators at {0} just banned you from their {1}. This means that you no longer have any membership rights on that {1}.
