Can we go back to EVE from Hoop.la?

Service: Hoop.la

Our CEO, Candy, has noted very little traffic on this Hoop.la platform.  Other members have complained about the complexity and ease of use.  They all are asking to return to the simpler, straightforward, early days...before Facebook (?).

I recall the APPCA used UBB forums which was busy.  The boss would like to have software that is that simple.

Of course, the challenge here is to retain the posts, content, and members data or migration back to "the good ole days."

Can't thank you enough for your support these last many years!!

Hi, Dennis:

It's not an option to go back to Eve, where you were when you moved to Hoop.la.

Do you know some of the specific things your members are struggling with? On some of the sites that I've worked with, we've developed a set of FAQs for things like uploading a clip/image, uploading an avatar, etc., which we then make easily accessible to the members for their easy reference. I'd be happy to work with you to develop a list of FAQs for you, if that would help?

Lori

Thanks Lori,

I am having difficulty editing the home page to list all forum categories as in the older look.  Not interested in displaying recent topics only.

After some investigating, not sure that we need to back migrate to EVE yet.  Want to change the look to show all forum topics with categories.

Also, Main Site is linked to CNN.. What's with that?  In the design?

Our members are highly unlikely to visit FAQ!s.  Does not happen with cooks and chefs.

Hi, Dennis:

1. It sounds like you might want to make the forums your default landing page--right? If that's what you want to do, here's how:

In your control panel, go to Structure (under Basics). At the bottom of the page, you'll see "Default Landing Page", and a dropdown menu. Choose "Forums" from that list, and then click "Update Settings".

While you're on that page, consider disabling the Home module, along with any other module that you aren't using (and don't forget to update the settings again).

2. I have no idea where that CNN link came from, but let's get rid of it:

In your control panel, go to Community Menu (also under Basics). Click the little trash can icon on the first item, which says "Main Site" to remove it from your menu.  Also, do the same with any of the modules you disabled in step 1. Note that you can change the order of your menu items, if you like. Click the green button ("Update Order") at the bottom of the page.

Once you've done that, have a look around the site, and see if there's anything you want to change to make it easier for you and your members. Let me know if you see anything you need help with.

Hope that helps!

I am wondering about a full data backup.  It has been a very long time since that was done.  How do I perform a backup and download to my hard drive?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Dennis:

You don't have the ability to do a backup and download it. We back up every night, however, so it IS happening.

We can provide you a data dump, if you like, but it typically costs around $200 to do that.

The backup format we provide is a combination of a MySQL dump with a separate JSON data file containing activity stream data. We also provide a tar file containing all attachments and uploads.

If you're interested, I can get you a quote for your community specifically.

Lori
