Michael Farris ·
Hello It's a quick permissions change in http://nvschade.hoop.la/cp/permissions/general http://nvschade.hoop.la/cp/permissions/general Scroll down: Right now only "members" are allowed to see the member profile and the members directory Change those to "world" and everyone can see them. Let me know if those changes work and, if not, point me to the page where your widget is running.

Widget cannot be seen on website while being logged out of the community

Bas van Haren ·
Hey there! For our community nvschade.hoop.la we have made a few widgets. However, one of these are not accessible/visible when not logged into the community. One of these is a list of moderators: When not logged in: When logged in: Where can I change the permissions to view members of this group when not signed into the community?

Re: Activity titles

Hi Emma, Activity Titles are now set via recipes which can be managed in the recipes section of the control panel. http://www.eenetconnect.ca/cp/manage-recipes You can add new ones to the Activity Milestones category. Just click the "add recipe in this category" button and fill out the form by giving the recipe a name and filling in the points milestone field. The default recipe for activity milestones comes with the email notification action which you can remove if you don't want it. Then...

Activity titles

Emma Firsten-Kaufman ·
Hi there, Can you tell me where I go to change the activity title options and the community points or rank required to achieve a given activity title? Also, is it possible to add an activity title that requires more community points (or a higher community rank) than our current highest? Not sure if this makes sense... Thanks, Emma

Topics that build community

ST ·
To Community Managers and Moderators Do you post topics to generate conversations and build your community? Our Bose Portable PA Community is dedicated to performers. Most of the conversations tend to be technical, and I'd like to see us get back to celebrating what we do as well as the technology we use to do it. You can see some of the starter topics here: Getting To Know You Do you do this in your community? What kinds of questions do you ask? Please share your experiences. Thank you, ST

Hey ST, We ask this question all the time -- what will build "community." Our site has a decent size following and we've been using Hoop.la and its earlier incarnations since 2002. We've seen the level of engagement go down even though visits are up. I call this the Facebook-effect. People these days get their online jollies talking to their friends and family members on FB and Instagram. People seem to want privacy, and to "get in and get out." Have you thought of your "quid pro quo" ? Your...

Thank you, Neil! I appreciate the time you took to check us out and look around. I'm very close (too close?) to what happens in our community. It was good to hear your observations from a distance. We also have a couple of active Facebook groups. Same products, completely different mindset of the people who go there. We're planning a major face-lift and reorientation for all our community touch-points. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas. I'll add them to the white board. ST

You’re welcome. Re: “Same products, completely different mindset of the people who go there.” So let’s talk: Why is FB more chat-inducing than Hoop forums? Is it because people have their own FB page and thus feel more invested in the platform and likely to spend more time there? What if Hoop Content Blocks were more like the FB Newsfeed — scraping new posts from the entire site to the Homepage? What if Admins could see what forums are being “followed” so we’d know which ones to feed and...

Hi Neil, I can't prove this, but I think there are segments of our users who are active on Facebook anyway (promoting their business) so it's easy to drop in to see what's happening in our Facebook-related groups. Facebook groups are a click away from other groups, other individual feeds, and a never-ending stream of dopamine inducing social rewards . There's greater incentive to be on the Facebook platform and very little investment required to engage with it. Hoop.la is an island unto...

Re: What has changed in my Administrator Status

Hi, Bill: Is it possible that you have more than one user? I know that I have one with administrator permissions, and one without, so I can mimic the user experience if necessary. If that's not the issue, try logging out on the machine that doesn't recognize you, and logging back in. If that doesn't work, try clearing the browser cache.

Re: What has changed in my Administrator Status

Jonmark Weber ·
Hello Bill, The issue with the other machine could also be a javascript issue. Meaning that the user may have administrative rights, but for some reason the computer you are on is not activating the tools through javascript (which is how we show and hide the tools). Could you try manually going to the control panel with the machine that does not think you are an admin, to see if the application also thinks you are not an admin? http://battleplanministries.org/eve/cp Cheers, Jonmark

Rev. Bill Berry ·
I thank my Co-Administrator and friend, Dave, for his help and for the two, obviously knowledgeable folks who've tried to help. It is very curious to me that the system recognizes my ID/password; and when I'm our Forum community - battleplanministries.org/eve - it allows me to pull up the control panel or to enter the Moderator's Forum, which says to me that the system recognizes me as an Administrator with Moderator Permissions. Yet, I cannot do what any forum member can do on my laptop ...

April ... thanks for caring enough to provide a very good suggestion. Sometimes the best thing to do is the most obvious. But I did think of that; and I've also rebooted the laptop (where I'm having the problem) as well. What I can't figure out is why the system recognizes me as having Administrator permissions, because it lets me into the Control Panel (which only forum administrators can do); and then once in our Eve Community, it lets me into the Moderator Forum, which I established for...

Hey David and Bill, Finally, to confirm one more thing: David, you logged into your account on Bill's laptop and were able to do all of the things that bill is for some reason prevented from doing? Is that correct? Do the functions that you are prevented from doing even show up on the page, or are they missing entirely? If they do display do you get an error when trying to do them or something else?

The good news is that you will be able to use your laptop for administering your forums. It could be an issue with the browser (we'll figure out what's causing this issue). In the mean time, a possible solution is to use an alternate web browser. You could try downloading firefox and see if that'll get you the immediate access that you would like. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/switch.html

If you don't mind me saying so, this has what looks like the classic symptoms of bad (corrupted) cookies. Have they been purged for the domains/subdomains in use? And then reacquired?

Re: What has changed in my Administrator Status

Jonmark Weber ·
Bill has tried clearing his browser caches and I believe his cookies. If nothing else he has logged in and out several times, and another moderator logged into the site on Bills laptop and experienced the same problem. I dont think that cookies have anything to do with it. I suspect its a Javascript problem on the browser on the laptop preventing the links from working properly. Both of the affected links Bill mentions use Javascript to load a popup window.

Eve's style sets control the overall look and feel of each community page. You can change all colors, fonts, images, and even add custom HTML so that you can skin your community any way you please. You can either edit an existing style (there are many stock styles in the control panel) or you can create a brand new style. To do this, go into your Eve Control Panel.
