Re: How to hide the page name on custom pages

Dr. Susan LaCombe ·
HI Rosemary, this is a good tip. If I also have some CSS for the other h1 tag on the page - not the one for the title tag - could I still include information for the h1 in the CSS: h1#pageTitle { display:none; } h1 { font-size: 18pt;; font-style: bold; margin-left:8%; } .breadcrumbs {display: none;}

Hi Susan, thanks! Yes, you can include other CSS that will override the higher level CSS for that page.

Re: Recipe to direct someone to a survey based on page views, clicks, or other activity

Lori ·
Hi, ST: There is not a trigger for page views, clicks or visits, and there is no recipe to target non-members. That said, you could set up a recipe with with "Member Inactive" as the trigger, and choose a period of time since their last visit. If you want to tailor it to new members, you could add the registration date as a condition, and then email them a link to a survey that you've created. For instance, you could set 7 days as the inactive period, with 10 days ago as the registration...

Online community is the Swiss Army knife of customer satisfaction and retention

Rosemary O'Neill ·
In a recent study from Leader Networks and CMX Media, customer satisfaction and retention were cited as the most important drivers of community. (For more about the report, see “ Keys to Community Readiness and Growth ”.) That’s a big shift from the oft-cited “reduce support costs” driver (which is still up there, at number three). So how do you structure your online community so that you maximize the opportunities to satisfy customers and keep them coming back? Listen to your customers It’s...

How to hide the page name on custom pages

Rosemary O'Neill ·
When you create a custom page and choose to insert it within the standard page wrapper, Hoop.la will automatically include the Page Name as the title at the top of the page. If you don't want the title to appear, insert this piece of custom CSS in your Custom Page, within the Custom CSS box: h1#pageTitle { display:none; }

Recipe to direct someone to a survey based on page views, clicks, or other activity

ST ·
Hi! Is it possible to direct a member (or non-member) to a survey based on their activity in the community? Possible triggers: 5 page views 10 clicks second visit to the site (doesn't have to be a member) Motives We hope that people are finding answers to questions but if they do, and don't post a comment, we have no way to know. We're also looking for ways to measure community satisfaction. If you can think of other ways to know more, I'm all ears. Thank, ST

This has been extremely helpful for me! Thank you both (Jane and Rosemary)! It is always so empowering to see what other people are doing to build community, and how they are connecting online and offline relationships and projects to make the world we live in better. I'm struggling to make the conversion from Facebook to our new (3 months) Hoop.la site (LakelandConnection.com) but this has reminded me to be patient. I look forward to more case studies like this!

In your Eve Control Panel, go to Eve >> Members >> Profile Settings. Certain fields are always required, but otherwise you can determine which profile fields you wish to have listed as either required or optional (or disabled entirely), by choosing from the lists. You can also create custom profile fields.

Re: 3-Column Custom Widget Module For Hoop.la

The homepage is where we see the 3 columns feature only. I'm just saying, it would be nice if a similar layout was available where an admin can add custom widgets to it to use it as a special feature page. The blog, forum, & clips page have a 2 column design, so I imagine a separate 3 column module that is a blank slate would be good for an admin to add site widgets as well as custom ones. If hoop.la can support that feature, it'll be great for folks like me accustomed to seeing sites...

We'd be happy to set up training, but there is a cost associated with that. If you would like a quote, let me know. Does it have to be the "actual link", or will a "relative path" work too? Actual link: http://www.socialstrata.com/images/socialstrata.ico Relative path: /images/socialstrata.ico If I already have mine inserted in the "Custom HTML" of the "Style Editor " Do I need to delete them too? BTW: Excellent addition to this platform!

Re: Eve Community 1.3.6 hot fix to be released.

Bill, I would lean toward the side of caution and go full URL with this. You can remove it from the the Custom HTML as it'll no longer be needed, but if you don't remove it there will be no harm done. The important thing is that by using the control panel setting the default social strata icon is removed from the header.

Thanks for adding this feature. Can the path be to an outside URL? Or does it have to be uploaded to our socialstrata website? (this should be clarified in your docs) Ideally, it would be any url.

Also, can the file be bmp or gif? Or must it be .ico ?? And... I've uploaded the file to rotation.org/favicon.ico and put the url in the control panel, but it's not appearing. Is there a lag time for your server on this? If so, that should be noted.

Your favicon is working for me, Neil. Your browser caching and old one maybe? AFAIK it does need to be an ico file, as the mime type that is set is type = "image/x-icon"

I'm using IE and have cleared the cache several times. Still not appearing. Various web reports about this issue seem to indicate that webpages need some extra code to force it with some browsers, including IE. Here's a guy's blog who used to work for Microsoft. He has an FAQ about how to deal with favicon issues. http://jeffcode.blogspot.com/2...-my-site-appear.html Oother people's fave icons are working in my IE browser. Loaded right up.
