Re: Support choosing from popular tags when composing content

Jonmark Weber ·
Hello Chris, Could you give a bit more detail about where you are expecting the Calendar used tags to show up? Is it during the posting process for a new Blog Entry or on one of the blog pages? Cheers, Jonmark

Re: Support choosing from popular tags when composing content

Chris Herbert ·
Sure. The tags that are available should be consistent so people don't have to remember the tag used from another module. For example: P2P is a tag which stands for Peer to Peer. It should be on a pick list for forums, calendars, blog posts etc. I've attached some screenshots.

Re: Support choosing from popular tags when composing content

Jonmark Weber ·
Hey Chris, So that Suggested Clips section on the posting form is based on just the content that you are posting, and the terms that we parse out of it. It does not take into account the site or the popularity of any of those terms on the site, which is something we can consider taking into account. Do you think that the suggestions should include terms that are popular on the site, but do not appear in the post itself? Cheers, Jonmark

Re: Support choosing from popular tags when composing content

Chris Herbert ·
I think popular AND used tags should be on the list. That way I don't have to remember what I've used in the past. You guys are using tags to aggregate content under topics, posts, clips etc. Therefore if there is no editorial control you'll have topics being tagged as P2P , peer2peer, peer to peer. The content can't be well organized. I get the idea for suggesting tags based on text in a post but in terms of content taxonomy purposes this won't fly. Check out how Diigo, a bookmarking site,...

Hi Chris- I've converted this topic to a "suggestion" so others can vote up your idea, which is to support viewing/selecting popular tags, in addition to suggested tags, when composing content.

Re: Support choosing from popular tags when composing content

Hi Ted, how can we raise awareness of this suggestion? It has no votes but is that because no one knows it exists? My fear is because it's buried no one knows about this suggestion. This is a show stopper for me and will be a contributing factor as to whether we continue with Hoop.la or move to another community platform. Are there other mechanisms you and your team use to get product changes added to your roadmap other than suggestions?

Hi Chris- It is not scheduled for our next major update. We don't typically comment beyond the next release we are working on because priorities tend to change over time. If it is really important to you, we do offer a customization/expedite option, whereby we can either do custom work for your site OR expedite a feature we plan to add at some point that is not currently scheduled (like this one). If you would like a quote for that , please let me know.

YES PLEASE!! With a member base as large as ours is, and as many topics as we have active at any given time, tags/mentions that send an alert are essential for our members to respond and keep up! For the web/pc interface, this is our most common complaint.

I agree, the ability to tag individuals would be a tremendous help. It was mentioned we have a high volume board, and it's true. Some threads have page counts that double, even triple, within a day's time. It's tough wading through all the posts. Tagging would cut down the amount of time spent sifting through threads a ton.

With Scarymommy, many people keep themselves very anonymous and do not even upload an avatar. A good portion of our users are on their mobile more than they are on their computer and this would make it easier for them to interact on the site.

Hi Jill, No, it's not currently possible to tag users in posts. It is a cool idea (and one that we are considering for a future release), so I'll change this to a suggestion so others can vote on the idea. Thanks, Brian

Re: Prepopulate the Tags list

Brian Lenz ·
Hi ST, It's currently not possible to have the level of control over tags and suggested tags that you are requesting. Tags are intended to be a loose, user-defined taxonomy; they are not intended to be a more structured taxonomy, which it looks like you may be looking for. Additionally, tag suggestions are derived (purely) based off of the content of the post. I'll convert this to a suggestion for you... Brian

Hi Melanie- Yes, you can delete tags. You should see a trashcan logo to the left of the tags when you click on Edit Tags. See attached screenshots. I just tested and was able to delete any tags on a clip that I wanted to.

Re: Edit/Delete Clip Tags

Hi Ted, We do not have the trash can icon on any of the "Edit tag" boxes (clips, forums, blog, etc.) Here's my screen shot (logged in as SuperAdmin): The only time I have ever seen the trash can is for a post or tag made by our SuperAdmin account--meaning that we can delete a tag that we specifically made; but don't have the option to delete tags made by others. The only way I've gotten around this on the forums is to "edit" the post and then delete the tags; but Clips do not have a post to...

Hi Everyone: How do I remove the "edited by" from posts?
Reply

Re: Edit/Delete Clip Tags

Brian Lenz ·
Hi JJ, The only way to suppress the edit line would be to use custom CSS to hide the "Edited by" line for all posts entirely. Is that what you are looking for? If so, you can just add this custom CSS to your site to remove the edited by line on all posts: .postEditText { display:none; } Let me know if that helps or if you're looking for something else. If you put that custom CSS in your site's CSS, it will apply to all posts (not just yours). Brian

Hi Jessica, Yep, we do have plans to add support for member tagging eventually. It's not on our immediate development schedule, however, so I can't give an estimate right now as to when it might become available. Here's a suggestion for the feature you may want to vote on: https://www.socialstrata.com/s...re-like-in-facebook- If it's a critical feature for your community, we do have a feature expedite program whereby you can pay to have a feature moved up our development schedule. Hi Julia, We will be removing the dedicated mobile interface that Hoop.la currently has in favor of a single web interface that will work across all devices. Responsive design means that the interface responds naturally to different sized devices (phones, tablets, computers, etc.) as opposed to requiring panning and zooming with a traditional web interface that isn't optimized for mobile. It's a much more ideal approach as compared to having a separate mobile web interface, particularly when...

To build responsive design into the hoop.la sites (and the UBB forums) will be AMAZING for all Hoop.la site owners. If you are a site owner and have a healthy and engaged community, having responsive design for mobile devices will probably drive up your community engagement at least 20% (if not much higher) in my opinion. Responsive design is a huge value add for sure. When I visit my site on my Samsung S3 device, the mobile friendly version of Hoop.la isn't that great (objectively...

I know responsive design is a large project, but wanted to comment on this thread to see if there might be any update to having this tagging feature. I could see tagging as a feature that would help skyrocket the engagement within a forum. My wife uses a Facebook group page to facilitate conversation and they are tagging people left and right. I would think a forum with a tagging feature would be a significant value add.

Hi Bradley, We don't have an update on member tagging at this time. It's still a feature that we see as being valuable, but it's not likely something that will make it into our initial Responsive Design release. We'll be sure to post back here if/when we have an update as to the status of this feature! Thanks, Brian
