Re: How to bypass mobile detection to get html instead of wml?

Ted O'Neill ·
We do not use WML and in fact always serve HTML, even for mobile browsers. Thus, it is not a WML issue, but more likely an issue of what HTML is supported in your browser. For mobile browsers, we are simply delivering a mobile-optimized user interface, which is still entirely HTML (not WML). Please provide more specifics about what you are seeing in your mobile browser, including any error messages and/or screen shots, so we can help determine the problem for you. Thanks!

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Red Blue- Sorry- You classified your product here as UBB Forum, which does not use WML. It sounds like you are using Eve, an older product of ours, instead. I will change the product classification of this support ticket. Eve does use WML for mobile browsers. Thus, I will change this to a suggestion for Eve.

With Scarymommy, many people keep themselves very anonymous and do not even upload an avatar. A good portion of our users are on their mobile more than they are on their computer and this would make it easier for them to interact on the site.

Re: Ads on Mobile?

Lori ·
Hi, Art: As part of the responsive design, the small screen goes down to just the left side of the page. One the home page, you can insert ad code in a Custom Content block, and mark it as an ad. You can configure this from your home page - look for the link on the right that says "Configure Home Page". Then click "Add Content Block", and choose "Custom Content Block". You can insert your HTML code in that box, and even mark it as an ad. On your Blog page, you can add HTML in a top banner...

Also, you can also insert ads in your header if you wish, and that will show up on every page. If you look in your control panel under Display Settings, you'll see a description about how to wrap your ad code in case you've granted the "Bypass Advertisements" permission to your premium members.

Re: Issues on Phones

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Jill- We are aware of no issue with the mobile interface (and have received no other complaints in that regard). It should actually be quite snappy since it is a simpler interface. We'll check out your site via mobile though to see if we see any issues. In the meantime, if anyone complains about performance in mobile, make sure you get detailed info, like the kind of phone they are using (and OS version number), as well as the specific page(s) that are slow/problematic. That will help us...

Re: Issues on Phones

Ted O'Neill ·
I just took a quick look at your site via mobile and pages were fast for me (though again I don't know which specific pages are being reported as slow). I do see a couple of potential issues: -- Make sure your custom mobile header and footer images are lightweight (no big file sizes). I did not check to see file sizes there, so that may be a non issue. -- There is some kind of broken image or code in your custom mobile footer. That could definitely slow things down potentially for some...

Hi Jill, As far as the mail delivery issue, it would appear that earlier today there was no valid mail server configured for your domain name. As a result, our servers could not send you email. All of the mail was being deferred/delayed. It looks like as of about 4 hours ago (6pm PST), mail is now being delivered successfully, so perhaps you or your mail host corrected the issue? Regards, Brian

Yup, got a flurry of notifications earlier. OK, got rid of all the coding, ads etc., but heard the below from two people. Have you gotten that before? "I just created a new post under work/life. I'm on an iPhone. After drafting the whole thing, the only option it gave me was to click done, but it didn't seem to post. I refreshed and it erased everything."

Hi @neil ! If a premium member deactivates their account, their premium membership will simply have auto-renew canceled (if it's not already). That way, if they decide to come back and reactivate their account, their premium membership will still be active if it hasn't yet expired. When a premium member chooses to delete their own account, the premium membership is terminated immediately and no refund is given. Both of these implications are made clear to the member when deactivating or...

Hi Ted, Is there a way to turn off this feature? If not, we need one immediately. Concerns: Most of our circles are to provide access to specific forums that are visible only to the members of those specific circles. This is important: We do not want the existence of some forums and the related circles to be visible. Some of our circles have names that that were never intended for public consumption If specific circles are by invitation-only (most of ours are), then we don't want to have to...

HI @ST , We only show publicly viewable circles to regular users. If the circle is marked as Viewable By Super Admins Only (the default), then only Super Admins will be able to see the circle. Thus, this shouldn't be an issue unless you've unchecked that option on the circles to make the circle visible. Does that help? Brian

Re: The Member Deactivation Release

Hi, Brian: I see the check box when configuring circles at the site level. Of course, all of this is more convoluted for me because we are using groups in an unconventional way. So when I looked at configuring circles at the group level, there is no checkbox for VIewable By Super Admins Only (I thought you'd get a chuckle out of this one). After poking around a bit with a couple of my dummy accounts, it looks like the Viewable By Super Admins Only default applies to group level circles by...

@ST , yep, that's correct. Hoop.la won't show group circles publicly; the feature Ted described only applies to circles on the main site, not in groups.
