Re: Moving/cross linking topics from forums to groups

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Emma- There is no way to move (or even crosslink) content from a main site into a group currently. If this is super critical, we can provide a quote for you to have our developers do this for you manually, however. If you want a quote for that, please let us know. Thanks!

In the control panel under CP -> Eve -> Display -> Settings, and then on the Wordlets tab you will want to customize the XSL_POWERED_BY_EVE wordlet. This wordlet is only used for the title of pages and allows you to customize this to your hearts content. Once you have updated the value you will need to invalidate your sites page cache if you want the change to appear everywhere immediately.

Thanks for that - one more question I have searched the existing wordlets - and cannot see the XSL_POWERED_BY_EVE wordlet 1) Do I need to create it? 2) If not - what set is it in? Thanks

Hello TJ, If you add that wordlet, where the keyword is that name I provided you, and the value is whatever you want to be displayed. Cheers, Jonmark

I added the suggested wordlet (XSL_POWERED_BY_EVE) to both Eve and Forums wordlet sets but the page (meta) titles remain unchanged. What am I doing wrong? I also notice one tag must drive the Forum Powered by Social Strata and anoter Topic powered by Social Strata -

Thanks for the suggestion, ST! We do have plans to add support for this at some point in the future, but it's not currently scheduled for development so I don't have an ETA as to when it might be completed. If you are interested in a quote for a feature expedite, let me know!

Hi Brian,It's just another thing on the wish list. I like audit trails. No need for a feature expedite. It's another thing on the wish list. There is little more precious than a sincere expression of thought. Context provides nuance and links back-and-forth maintain the context. ST

Hi @Aliza Rosen , yes you can do that. Just "edit" the blog post and disable comments (you should see that on the right side).

Thanks, @Rosemary ONeill . So it has to be done on each individual blog, right? There's no setting to disable it across all blogs?

Re: Blogs w/comments vs Forums: the steel cage match

Rosemary O'Neill ·
Right @Aliza Rosen the ability to comment on blogs is enabled/disabled per blog post right now. However, a workaround would be to use CSS to suppress the comment box, etc. on blogs. If you need help with that, just let me know!

It was kind of a mini release, and this was the biggest new enhancement...but we can post a bit more detail today!

Re: A new way to analyze forum data

Rosemary O'Neill ·
Here are a few more enhancements that were included in this release: We fixed the pagination bug for dialogs and clip sets. In the content management area of the control panel, we added some new search parameters. You can now find clips that have no clip set, or blogs that have no collection, and search for content that is either featured or not featured. There were other behind-the-scenes bug fixes and updates, but nothing else that affects the feature set.

Hi ST, Those are actually images. If you look in the images section for your theme you will see ubbcode - bold, ubbcode - italic, etc. You would have to make custom white versions of the images you want to update and update the url for those images to point to them. Jeff

Forked Topic should link back to the original Topic

ST ·
When you fork a topic it creates a note that the topic is forked. In the new topic, it would be good to provide a link back to the post that got forked. This provides a trail back to the original topic. I end up doing this manually every time I fork a topic. This is important if the forked post contains quoted text. Thanks for considering this. Sort forum topics by "followed" status

We have many forum topics and some members follow a few in particular and not the others. Cross-linking between groups

Emma Firsten-Kaufman ·
Hi there, If a topic is posted on one group page, is it possible to cross-link it to another group page? OR Can we embed a widget from one group page on another group page? Thanks! Emma

Re: Cross-linking between groups

Lori ·
Hi, Emma: You can do both of those things...but you'll want to make sure that the groups have the proper permissions: If you post something from Group A into Group B, whether it's a cross-post or a widget, Group B will need to have the permissions to see the content from Group A. Hope that helps! Lori

Re: Cross-linking between groups

Hi, Emma: I was mistaken: you cannot cross-post in between groups, but you CAN share the content via a widgets. In order for that to happen, the group whose content you want to share has to either be public, or the people in the second group also have to belong to the first group. To be clear, if you want to share Group A's content with Group B, then either Group A has to be a public group, or members of Group B must also be members of Group A, in order to view that content. Does that make...

Re: Topics that build community

Hey ST, We ask this question all the time -- what will build "community." Our site has a decent size following and we've been using Hoop.la and its earlier incarnations since 2002. We've seen the level of engagement go down even though visits are up. I call this the Facebook-effect. People these days get their online jollies talking to their friends and family members on FB and Instagram. People seem to want privacy, and to "get in and get out." Have you thought of your "quid pro quo" ? Your...

You’re welcome. Re: “Same products, completely different mindset of the people who go there.” So let’s talk: Why is FB more chat-inducing than Hoop forums? Is it because people have their own FB page and thus feel more invested in the platform and likely to spend more time there? What if Hoop Content Blocks were more like the FB Newsfeed — scraping new posts from the entire site to the Homepage? What if Admins could see what forums are being “followed” so we’d know which ones to feed and...

Re: Topics that build community

Hi Neil, I can't prove this, but I think there are segments of our users who are active on Facebook anyway (promoting their business) so it's easy to drop in to see what's happening in our Facebook-related groups. Facebook groups are a click away from other groups, other individual feeds, and a never-ending stream of dopamine inducing social rewards . There's greater incentive to be on the Facebook platform and very little investment required to engage with it. Hoop.la is an island unto...
