This is a great addition! A couple of things I noticed: 1. The above mentions an option to turn on embeds in the control panel. I didn't see this - but I also noticed that embeds are now already on. Awesome. 2. Ads. It's great that you added this - but in terms of usability and revenue it should hopefully be tweaked. Perhaps there should be an option to put an ad at the top and at the bottom of the page, similar to how an ad looks currently at the bottom of the page when you turn it on. As...

Hello cdub, You should be able to find the setting to turn off embeds within the control panel at: CP -> Forums -> Master Settings -> Advanced within I believe the "Miscellaneous Settings" section. Should be the top option. We thought about it and decided that this setting should be a all or nothing type deal. Thanks for the recommendations with the Ads. Sounds like a great idea. Regarding the Login Widget. All customization should be done through the CSS. We provide VERY basic CSS...

Re the widget - is there a list of all the CSS classes? Can you change the size of the Avatar? I'll take a look at the source of the widget as you suggested as well. Re Dave and putting an ad on the top and bottom. Yes you can - but it is separate from the forum. The inline ads include the ads within the forum and (hopefully) make them more noticeable and attractive to visitors. The other problem I'm running into when figuring out how to use it is that Google Adsense only allows 3 ads to be...

Hello cdub, I cant wait to see what you come up with, so please, link here to your site when you are done. If you have further questions about how to customize the features in this release could you put in question support tickets for them? I think that would help us keep this ticket clean and make it a bit easier for people who may have the same questions to get their answers as well. Thanks, Jonmark

Can you please explain further how to use the embed feature. I cant seem to make it work. On my forum when I click the filmstrip icon all that happens is flash tags drop in my message. On this support forum, when I click the filmstrip I get a popup window to fill in some information. My forum is http://lanceowners.infopop.cc/eve Thanks Eric Dye

When you press the filmstrip icon you get some code that goes into your post that says something like [flash video] [/flash video] All you need to do it post your embed code inbetween those two pieces of code in your post.

When you go to a youtube video, you will see a embed link below the video that when clicked shows a textbox preselected. If you copy that text and paste it between the flash video ubbcode tags the post should include the youtube video. I hope that helps, Jonmark

Reference: I have a question about how to access my web control panel so how can I post a support ticket? To create a support ticket you have to check Private Topic: Only You And Company Staff Will Have Access To This Topic (at the very bottom, just above Post Now button) while creating a new topic.

Shaun has created a ticket, but just to clarify, you do not have to check the "Pivate Topic" box. You only need to do that if you want to keep your inquiry completely private. We look at all incoming topics and we'll mark them as xsupport tickets as necessary, whether they are private or not.

Re: 3-Column Custom Widget Module For Hoop.la

The homepage is where we see the 3 columns feature only. I'm just saying, it would be nice if a similar layout was available where an admin can add custom widgets to it to use it as a special feature page. The blog, forum, & clips page have a 2 column design, so I imagine a separate 3 column module that is a blank slate would be good for an admin to add site widgets as well as custom ones. If hoop.la can support that feature, it'll be great for folks like me accustomed to seeing sites...

Re: Embedding and Moving Widgets in 2.0

Good afternoon Neil, Widget management is greatly improved in Hoop.la 2.0, first the management tools for widgets no longer appear by default when viewing a page. If you can manage widgets then you should see a "Manage Widgets On X Pages" link at the top of the widgets in the right column. Example: Once you click that link then the rest of the page should gray out and the widgets on that page will enter a "edit mode" which is much more condensed and makes re-ordering / managing the widgets...

Good evening Art, I looked into the real quick and the issue appears to be caused by the HTML in your custom widgets. If you look at this custom widget you can see that the HTML is incomplete and the table -> tr that you open are never closed. Each widget must contain complete, well formed HTML. http://www.p4photel.com/cp/man...s#362147801669174735 I have not looked through all of your widgets to see if there are other such "problem children", but it might be worth doing a audit through...

I don't understand all of them were fine a week ago, except for a few. When I went to "manage widgets" on the home page all 15 of them showed except for a few. You own widgets that you provide do not even show up. Thus it's not a problem on my end.

Hi Art, I can't speak to what might have changed with your widgets, but Hoop.la will certainly not make any changes to your widget HTML automatically. I went ahead and removed this malformed HTML from the "Masiling LIst Sign up" widget. <table width="170" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr bgcolor="#006699" valign="top"> I also closed one of the divs so that it has well-formed HTML. The widget doesn't have any contents in it, so it is going to display as empty. In...

I'm glad we can now add members in the backend. In the past I've attempted to do this refreshing obsolete accounts with new personage to take over the account, but when I'd open a dialog with them, the system wouldn't allow me to message the member due to the same IP I guess. So I'm wondering, will I have the same problem under the new release if I register people.

Re: The Miscellaneous UI Release

Brian Lenz ·
Hi Lhisa, Hoop.la doesn't do any checks based on IP address that would prevent you from sending a dialog to another user. Users can choose to prevent others from sending them dialogs, however (assuming you are talking about dialogs). Thus, the new feature that allows you to register users through the control panel should behave the same way. The only difference is that you will not be logged in as the new user (as you would have previously). Without knowing exactly what error you're getting,...

No, I wasn't blocked. I just noticed that in the past if I signed up as a new member under my IP address on my hoop.la site using a different email address as a test member, I could not send a dialog to that test member & I attributed that to having the same IP since I was also the Admin because the system shows the registration IP & the last IP used to login. If the system however is not wired to see that as a conflict, then something else was blocking my ability to receive a dialog...

Hi Jon, This release went out to all Hoop.la, UBB Forum, and QuestionShark customers. We've had numerous requests for slideshow functionality over the past year or so (I don't have an exact figure to give). We support slideshows now via the Clips widget Ted mentioned as well as on the Clips page itself. Hope that helps, Brian

Re: The Miscellaneous UI Release

Always appreciate your releases but disappointed you've stopped giving them creative names. We implemented your suggested CSS code to suppress the new Post Content button. Our Reason: at our site it would likely invite too many improperly located or duplicate topics. I do like the idea of encouraging posts, however, so I'm wondering about a widget that features the current "hot topic" (as determined by activity/views/whatever) and has a 'reply now' button to catch interest on the home page.

Re: Clips Slideshow Widget Options

Hi Melanie, Are you sure that's how it's working? It's supposed to work as you are hoping: the newest clips should always appear first. When a new clip is added, it should appear first in the slideshow. I just checked it out in a few places, and it does appear to be working properly in my tests. Do you have an example showing where this is not the case? Brian

Re: Clips Slideshow Widget Options

Hi Brian, As soon as we had 50 photos, it stopped and the first/top photo shown was the 50th and the last/bottom photo in the slideshow was the first uploaded to that set. Dozens of photos were added after that and it didn't change. Parents thought their photos weren't going through, so they kept uploading repeats to try to get their kid into the slideshow; so that's when I switched it to "Trending over last 24 hours". Do you think maybe it was just stuck/cached? You can see the slideshow on...
