New Hoop.la Features - February 2012

Ted O'Neill ·
We quietly added some new features to Hoop.la over the past week or so and some of these are fairly major. 1.  More Control Over Member Data We added a new setting in the control panel that allows admins to determine whether to allow...

Re: Multiple Calendars Now Supported

Paul Heymont ·
Thanks! This is a big step in a number of ways, including making the list rather than the grid the first thing visible, and allowing it to scroll into the future, instead of being broken up by month. One question for us: On our site ( http://www.travelgumbo.com ) we have the calendar listed as Upcoming Content Planner (bloggers only) under the TG Stuff menu item. Is there an easy way to simply have the calendar not appear on the menu for those who do not have calendar access? Friendlier than...

Re: Multiple Calendars Now Supported

Jonmark Weber ·
Good morning Paul, Glad you like the calendar changes, we are very excited about them here as well. The reason that the sub menu item does not respond to a users permissions is that its a custom menu item. Custom menu items cannot be hidden or shown by Hoop.la based on a users access to the web page that they link to. The "Calendar" built in menu item will show or hide based on a user's ability to view at least one calendar on your site. Hope this helps, Jonmark

Re: Multiple Calendars Now Supported

Paul Heymont ·
If I understand correctly, then, we could remove the current calendar listing we have, implement a "calendar" item on the menu line, and it would then show or not, depending on user permission? That would work for us... __________________________________________________________________________________

Re: Multiple Calendars Now Supported

Jonmark Weber ·
That is correct Paul, though you will want to be careful because you already have a lot of root level menu items so adding another one could blow out the width of your site. Just something to be mindful of, Jonmark

Re: The Recipes Release

Augie ·
Hey Ted, looking forward to playing with recipes. Do you know if the release would have inadvertently impacted our permissions groups. We have one group who lost the ability to edit member posts in the forum they were assigned to. I had to go back and give them the Moderate Content permission. Thanks.

Re: The Recipes Release

Brian Lenz ·
Hi Augie, The Recipes release shouldn't have impacted your forum permissions in any way. Is it possible that another administrator made the permission change? Regards, Brian

Re: The Recipes Release

Augie ·
Hi Brian, the only recent change that was made to this permission circle was that some members were removed. No permissions were edited though. Today we received comments from existing members that none of them could edit posts which was one of the granted permissions. When I investigated I noticed that only the admins had the moderate content permission. Weird.

Re: The Recipes Release

Brian Lenz ·
Strange. The upgrade wouldn't have impacted that. If you are able to identify any specific scenario where things may be going awry, it would be great if you could put in a support topic with more details. Thanks!

Re: The Recipes Release

Augie ·
No worries, we only have a couple custom permission circles and it only took a minute to restore content moderation to this group. On the other hand, I just created my first recipe! We get a lot of spam so new members are placed into a moderated permission circle and have be cleared by a moderator which adds them to a different permission circle. The recipe I created automates this (at least in theory b/c I'm not sure how to find/use a recipe).

Re: The Recipes Release

Brian Lenz ·
Great! Yeah, your use case is definitely a good example of the power of Recipes Once your recipe is set up with the rules you want, you can just sit back and watch it work. As the recipe is triggered (e.g. as users register or post), it will work automatically behind the scenes, performing the tasks you assigned it to do... Have a great weekend!

Re: The Recipes Release

Augie ·
CRAP, if that's the case then I don't think I set this up right b/c the trigger would add every new member to an un-moderated permission group. Here's what it looks like:

Re: The Recipes Release

Brian Lenz ·
It would depend on what trigger you use for that recipe. If you'd like further assistance or have further questions, can you please create a new support topic , and we'd be happy to assist you further. It's a bit more difficult to tailor the support to you in the blog's comments section. Thanks!

Re: The Recipes Release

Augie ·
Thanks Brian, will do. Really interested in the possibilities of recipes. The company I work for has a home-grown forum system that isn't doing well so I took them on a tour of the Hoop.la site I manage and they were very impressed. IMO it would be better to migrate to a Hoop.la community than continue down the path of the DIY approach. I'll submit a support topic to discuss the trigger for the scenario we've been talking about.

ST ·
Hi, Ted. I do like it. It's a little big, but I bet it helps to keep things on topic. We're not actively using QuestionShark right now, but I have some content in there so people on our team can see how it will look. I can see that I'll have to do some stylin' to get it to fit better with our background. Likely not a big deal. ST

I'm absolutely loving the LiveCloud features! Thank you. The backdating of posts is enabling me to add old entries from old blogs here and organize my pre-LiveCloud photos into date order. The ability to insert clips straight into the post body does save me a lot of time too! Now I can just drag and drop them after they are in there. I haven't tried the new clip insertion yet, it sounds great!

"Message Variables" isn't a clickable link in my browser (Chrome for Windows). Do you have a web page that lists/explains all the variables and codes?
Comment

Re: Introducing Recipes

Brian Lenz ·
Hi DebAsWas, "Message Variables" actually isn't a link; it's a hover element, so you just need to hover your mouse over it to see the Message Variables that apply. That hover dropdown is the only place we are displaying Message Variables currently. Here's an example screenshot of what it looks like: Note that the variables that will apply vary depending on the Recipe trigger that you're using, so you'll always want to check to make sure the variables you're using are applicable. Hope that...

Re: EVE => Hoop.la migration Moderation Queue had pages of reported posts

Dave Dreezer ·
Did you have a recipe set up before the import that would put certain posts into the mod queue?
Reply

Re: EVE => Hoop.la migration Moderation Queue had pages of reported posts

Brian Lenz ·
Hi ST, Recipes aren't actually used during the import, so this wouldn't have anything to do with recipes as Dave mentioned. The migration process does import all previous reports from Eve and it marks them as "unacknowledged" which is why they show up in the moderation queue. You can simply mark them as approved if you want to get them out of the moderation queue. Hope that helps, Brian
