Re: Hoop.la Update: Google Fonts, Reply With Quote, Censor List and more

Peter_RN ·
Hello Could you please explain just how the new ‘multi quote’ function can be used when you wish to quote from a previous page, as well as the current page? This is often the case especially when a new page has only one or two post on it. I know that you can post a quote from a previous page; we need to be able to quote from more than one page. Having the posting page tied to the current page (crazy) prevents me from being able to do this as the first quote selected cannot survive the page...

Re: Google Alerts

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Kim- We are not seeing any systemic issues on our end with Eve, but one thing I would recommend that you do is to use Google Webmaster Tools: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en That way you can check to make sure your site is properly "verified" with Google and, once you have your site registered there, Google can tell you if there are any inde crawler issues, etc. I think you can even request that Google index your site more frequently, if you think that is an issue. If...

Thanks Ted. I'm set up there now. I haven't yet found a place to request to be indexed more frequently, and unfortunately, b/c I just joined the Webmaster Tools, I don't have any data yet but I'll let you know if I see anything.

Re: Google Alerts

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Kim- To change frequency of indexing go to: Site Configuration > Settings > Crawl Rate There is a toggle there for "<label for="recommendedType">Let Google determine my crawl rate (recommended) " OR </label><label for="customType">Set custom crawl rate</label>

Re: Google Alerts

Isn't that changing the speed of the crawl not the actual frequency that google checks our site?

Re: Physical location sharing?

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Morgan- Yeah, that could be a cool feature. One way it could work is to simply support a private profile section that allows user to store a real physical location for home and/or work for instance. And then allow them to share that location with specific users (that they designate). Including a Google map is pretty easy assuming we have the actual location. The tricky part here is determining how and when people would want to share such information.. and how to allow them to control the...

Hi Ted, I was wondering if you have made any progress since May on developing mapping solutions for Hoop.la? The social community site I want to develop is based on the community’s interest in the social and environmental history of their local area. The “things of interest” the community will share can usually be located geographically on a map (geolocated). The problem I find with some of the big social network sites is that interesting content can “disappear” way down an activity stream...

Re: Physical location sharing?

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Robin- Your request is actually quite different from what Morgan was asking for here in this topic. She is just looking for a way to share an exact physical location between a buyer and seller. That is something we are still working through details on as part of a general "classifieds" module we are spec'ing out for the future. Your request is more about searching/grouping content based on geography. (Though, that would also be of use for Morgan as well, I would think.) We've actually...

Re: Physical location sharing?

Hi Ted, I just wanted to chime in... I would absolutely LOVE if there was a 'classifieds' module with a location component. When I was looking at services initially, there was a lack of one that combined the two - the combination of 'Craigslist' with more of a social component. A straight classifieds system is sort of boring and impersonal which is one of the reasons why I went with your system and figured I'd find a way to make it work for me. I am very happy to hear that it is something...

Re: Physical location sharing?

Ted O'Neill ·
Morgan- Yes, we've actually quite a few requests for supporting classifieds and it is in our development queue. We are still working through a spec though and it is not actually on our development calendar yet, so there is no current ETA. We'll let you know, of course, when we add it.

Re: Physical location sharing?

Robin Bull ·
Sorry to ask possibly silly questions as a newbie here, but do you make your development queue public? It would be very interesting to see what's in the pipeline. I'll go ahead and post a new suggestion as you recommend. I think I can put together quite a comprehensive requirements spec. I'll try to keep things generic so that the "thing of interest" can been seen as any entity on a site (user, article, etc). From what I have read here and elsewhere, map functionality combined with social...

Hi Robin- No such thing as a silly question here. While we do not publish our development queue, you'll find that we are quite active here on this support site and frequently spill the beans about things we are working on, especially if it is on the short-term horizon. We do also review all suggestions posted by users.. and those ideas often lead to great new features. As for your particular idea, I wan't trying to imply that we would only consider adding it if we think 90% of users will...

Hi guys, sorry it's been a while, I've been on holiday (vacation). To get a basic idea of what I'm proposing, take a look at this YouTube video about implementing Google maps in a Drupal site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIQBg2SREu8 As the presenter explains, the idea is that any type of content (user, node etc) can be geographically located either through "geocoding" or a point-and-click process on an interactive map. Then, an agrigation of all the "pins" added to a site can be displayed...

Re: Physical location sharing?

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Robin- We already support this to some extent with our calendar events... you can add location info there and we display a Google Map showing where the event is. Adding support for other content types would not be too difficult.. .and adding support searching by location is also quite possible. Really it is just a question of priority for us. We'll certainly post here if and when we add support.

Re: eve reports vs google analytics

Dave Dreezer ·
The reports you get from us are a total of every servlet request made. Google analytics are not applied to every page and thus will not include pages that don't contain your custom header/footer html. The are pages such as rss streams, content islands, login/logout pages, profile pages, and control panel pages. As I recall Google analytics also discard, or do not reveal, any search engine or robot traffic. You actually have to dig for that data, and the counts can be significant. As we still...

Thanks Dave. I think that might make sense because the provided numbers don't. The report shows us with 331,298 page views with an avg of 12,270 per day. Quite impressive except that there are only 18 new topics and 44 active users. That plus the fact the 5 most active topics combined only have 357 page views (all numbers from Eve) makes me wonder about those 331,298 views which have to be seriously inflated by something. Now I know what. thanks Nadeen

We have plans to add support for more structured content on every page (including the H1 tag mentioned by freeseoscorecard.com).
