Hi Lhisa, We do have a few changes in the pipeline that may improve SEO a bit. We have plans to add support for more structured content on every page (including the H1 tag mentioned by freeseoscorecard.com). We also are planning on making sure that all images have alt attributes on them. We don't have any plans to allow support for directly modifying server-side assets such as JavaScript files. Those are all fully optimized, minified, and gzipped. Note that you can also currently control the...

Hoop.la offers much more structured content in the new Hoop.la 2.0. In addition to using H1, H2, H3, H4 tags, we also implemented many scheme elements. More on Hoop.la 2.0: https://www.socialstrata.com/blog/hoop-la-2-0-is-here

Re: Can't make an image a link

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi ST- I just tested and it worked fine for me, using the WYSIWYG editor (without having to edit HTML directly). Can you tell me what browser you are using, though, so I make sure I am replicating your scenario as closely as possible? I tested with Chrome. Other possible explanations-- poor internet connection (maybe the page did not finish loading properly), other javascript you added to your site could be causing a conflict.

One other question, can you clarify how you are adding the images in the first place. I assume you are using the "insert image" button in the WYSIWYG (rather than adding as attachments)?

Hi Ted, I'm using Firefox, same as usual. I'm copy/pasting the image straight into the editor. Like this. and right now, I can't make the image clickable as a link. I'm quite certain that I was fine with this before the update. I do this several times a day. I'll come back and try with Chrome. ST

Let's try this. Time I copied the URL of the image from the previous post. https://www.socialstrata.com/f...ge/true/mceclip0.png Then I clicked the picture icon and pasted the url into the dialog box. That displayed the image in the WYSIWIG editor. Then I selected the image and clicked the link button, and filled in a URL. I can click the button but nothing happens. What are we doing differently? Hi ST, I'm not seeing any issues with this process, either. It appears to be working fine both on our site and your site in testing. Is it possible you have any browser extensions that could be interfering? I would suggest you check your browser's console to see if there are any errors during the process. One note: I did see you have a console.log output in your custom JavaScript in the setGroup() helper function (probably for testing at one point). You may want to remove that. It's unlikely...

Hi Brian, Thanks for spotting those old console.log entries. Now here's the really weird thing. I pulled out my laptop (Surface Book) and did my usual paste an image select the image ctrl-k fill in the URL click Ok It worked just fine. Did exactly the same thing on my new computer (Surface Studio) paste an image select the image ctrl-k fill in the URL click Ok Nothing happens when I click Okay. I got the Surface Studio on Thursday last week. That's why I thought the issue arose around the...

Okay - (oh no!) I just updated Firefox on the Surface Book to Firefox 53.0 32 bit. (same as the Surface Studio). Now it's doing the same thing (no response to the Ok button) And to test the premise further, I updated Chrome to Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit) (same as the Surface Studio). It's doing the same thing (no response to the Ok button) Any ideas Brian? ST

Hello ST, I was able to reproduce your issues with the latest version of FireFox and Chrome. I was actually on the previous version when I started, and both were behaving correctly, then after the upgrade to the latest version they are both behaving exactly as you have outlined. We will post back when we have a fix in place. Thanks for the report and helping us track this down, Jonmark

Re: Is there an easy way to copy a link to a specific topic or post?

Brian Lenz ·
Hi ST, There's currently no way to get the link in the format you are looking for from the topic details page. You'll need to get it from the Activity Stream or the Topic List, as you mentioned. I think that hyperlinking the topic subject in the ways you've suggested would likely lead to further confusion. Outside of the context of the Permalink (available from the Take Action dropdown), I'm not sure there's another valid reason to link back to the current page. This is something that could...

Hi, Brian. Thanks for converting this to a suggestion. I missed this as a feature because I've used it in other forum platforms. You're right. I don't see many people actually using it. I'm something close to fanatical about providing links to references. In EVE I was able to use a keyboard scripting tool to construct the links for me but that tool doesn't work well in a full WYSIWYG editor. I'll check out the client-side script idea when I have some cycles. Thanks for the ideas. ST

I got this part working. I used some jQuery in the Control Panel | Display | End of Page HTML to convert the last breadcrumb to a link. You could also prevent click event on the "hidden" link which will prevent members from clicking and refreshing the page: $("#currentPageBreadcrumb a").on("click", function(event) { event.preventDefault(); });

Revised script using Bartek's suggestion. Thank you Bartek. I know that I could tighten this up but I want to make sure that I can understand what it's doing when I'm looking at this at some point in the distant future. $(function() { // replace current page breadcrumb with link var theText = $("#currentPageBreadcrumb").html(); var theLink = $('<a>', { text: theText, title: theText, href: window.location.href }); $("#currentPageBreadcrumb").html(theLink) .on("click", function(event) {...

This script also addresses my second request - to create a link that jumps to a specific post. On the post of interest, click Take Action | Permalink. When the page reloads, scroll to the top of the page. (ctrl-home or shift-space a bunch of times). Select the breadcrumb for the page and copy it. This is the link to the specific post in the thread. Someday when I have more time I'd like to be able to click the breadcrumb and copy the link directly to the clipboard (without using flash). I...

Can't make an image a link

Hi, I think this is a new issue since the latest update earlier this week. I frequently add images to posts and make the images clickable as a link. Is there an easy way to copy a link to a specific topic or post?

ST ·
I'm looking for an easy way to copy a link to a topic or specific post. When I'm viewing a topic, it would be great if there was a link that I could copy that includes the text and the underlying URL, so that I could paste it elsewhere. This would work! When I'm viewing a post, I often need an easy way to create a link to that specific post. I know that I can click Take Action | Permalink but then I still have to copy the URL from the address bar and then build the link (type the text). If...

Cross-linking between groups

Emma Firsten-Kaufman ·
Hi there, If a topic is posted on one group page, is it possible to cross-link it to another group page? OR Can we embed a widget from one group page on another group page? Thanks! Emma
Reply

Re: Cross-linking between groups

Lori ·
Hi, Emma: You can do both of those things...but you'll want to make sure that the groups have the proper permissions: If you post something from Group A into Group B, whether it's a cross-post or a widget, Group B will need to have the permissions to see the content from Group A. Hope that helps! Lori

Re: Cross-linking between groups

Lori ·
Hi, Emma: I was mistaken: you cannot cross-post in between groups, but you CAN share the content via a widgets. In order for that to happen, the group whose content you want to share has to either be public, or the people in the second group also have to belong to the first group. To be clear, if you want to share Group A's content with Group B, then either Group A has to be a public group, or members of Group B must also be members of Group A, in order to view that content. Does that make...
