Such a nice little well-written jab at the drug Facebook and Twitter are injecting into their users. The many Hoop.la, UBB, and Eve communities, as well as Narrative are examples of how user to user interaction through the web should be done.

You know I never got an intro to Audrey, all that way and I never got to shake her by the leaf. *Wonders if Lori talks to Audrey when they are alone*

Well, James, if I *did* talk to her when we're alone, I wouldn't necessarily tell you. This plant is as old as my great-uncle. The story is that my great-uncle's grandmother sent a clipping from HER Christmas cactus to her daughter, on the day he was born. She rooted it, and this is the result. When my great-aunt died, my great-uncle had my parents drive it home from Coeur d'Alene (that was about 13 years ago, I think), and I've had her ever since. I'm the one who named her.

I agree Rosemary, we need to up the "panache" levels in everything we do! It is so obvious when we meet someone who does what they do - with panache. What a difference panache makes and what a fabulous word "panache" is!

Happy Valentine's Day today? A little premature perhaps...but that's men for you. Having said that I can hardly complain ... in Wales we have it a little on the early side too. 25th January - St Dwynwen's Day. http://www.historic-uk.com/His...istory/StDwynwen.htm But then 14th February is stolen from an old Roman ceremony - Lupercalia. http://www.meridiangraphics.net/lupercalia.htm Sounds like a lot more fun than a dozen red roses frankly.

Reference: panache I looked the word up on the internet and ended up in 2 womens underwear sites... I'm confused.... No make that 3!! I better stop there before Liz looks over my shoulder

I just got back in after being out all week, and the guys clearing the parking lot, at work, of the foot of snow that we got, dumped a tractor loader bucket or two in the bed of my pickup. I grabbed a shovel and put it back on the sidewalk. There's my panache for the week.

Hi ST, we may enable the surveys module...those are some good questions! I think we had done one previously that focused on which social network everyone used the most. Not sure if we'll open permissions for everyone to create surveys, but will definitely consider how we can use them!

HI. I work on ACEs Connection and i had tried to log into the Beta site to review the new set up but it seems to not recognize my user name (which is the name that I have in my ACEs Connection Network account). Not sure what to do?

Can I get an "amen"?! I quit Facebook quite a while ago, mostly over privacy concerns. But, I was definitely spending more time online in less meaningful ways, and who has time to spend doing meaningless things?
  • Blog Post Comment
First, let's start with the irony - I just used my Facebook account to post this comment. Its true, FB can and does suck in a lot of ways. It also creates an opportunity for a lot of fake and meaningless interaction. However, it does serve at least one purpose for me in that it does allow me to keep 'light' contact with a lot of people who don't live in my area. Friends from my hometown and friends who have moved. It allows me to keep a sort of dialog open that allows us to easily pickup...

Thanks for your comments, James. I don't disagree that Facebook has potential to serve a purpose for keeping in touch. My experience has been that while it has that potential, it doesn't typically play out in practice. I typically have used email/IM for those types of "light" contact, instead. I think that Hoop.la has a lot of the tools that are needed to enable networking and community in an effective way. If you haven't already, I'd recommend you check it out (you can set up a free site to...

I love how they use circles. It is a great way to organize your friends by their relationship. So many time with Facebook, you cannot specify how they are related to you. Hopefully we will see a bit more iphone application development in this realm. The app that Google has out now could use a bit more polishing. What do you guys think?

I totally agree with each point of Rosemary. Limited knowledge of things can spoil us. It is better to read widely and try to find out the best you want from it. Our own analysis of things will help us to take a final decision. I'm planning to start a social website on a vCloud Connector server, could you please suggest the positives. Different writers put forward different opinion; some prefers to write only positive but some are totally opposite and only born to think negative. It creates...

This gave me a lot to think about - thanks Rosemary! My problem is that I am looking for something specific.... farmers and gardeners that are from Vermont. But, figuring that any exposure is good exposure, I created a Squidoo lense that's a near copy of a blog post I made as well as created a new board on Pinterest (I love Pinterest anyway so this comes easy). I like to troll the VT Craigslist for new members (Farm and Garden section) and have also posted to the online bulletin board of...

I've been using my earbuds the last couple of days, because of this road construction noise, and it helps. On Facebook, I hide the game posts as they come up, that way I can keep it to the "nuggets". The only problem is that there's no way to do this on the phone app, so I have to log on via computer occasionally to fix this. I'm a bit surprised the iPhone app doesn't have a facility for this, but maybe they will in a future version.

Oh Rosemary! What a wonderful blog. Very honest and heartfelt. I've never done a social network site... and increasingly I'm glad I don't get tied up in the white noise that people seem to have to deal with. I like a simple existence. I like to be in control of anything I say or post. This isn't a puff piece for LC as some may see it, but I'm comfortable here... and I know it's a social network site too!

You do all that before feeding those kiddies? And you cook! If I am honest It is the Small business feel that attracts me to LiveCloud. Some of the Faceless options out there just turn me off. So from my point of view your "recipe" is very tasty. I would love to know how you manage your Email in box...

LOL, but breakfast is usually something "instant." It makes everything so much more fun when we get to know our customers and they become friends. Makes me want to get up at 6am When are you coming back to visit us in the States again? I use my email inbox as a "to do" list. First run through and delete all of the spam (even with filtering, there's a lot). Then respond to the quick items, then go top to bottom for the longer responses. Then read the blogs, deleting the ones I don't need to...

Well visiting America/Seattle depends on Elizabeths recovery from this Pemphigoid condition. It is so sensitive that we fear a prolonged flight may antagonise it. However people are supposed to recover so we will see. We would love to Amtrak it from Chicago to Seattle have va few days with you lot again then go back via a different route. Probably expensive but worth it.

I love this system of being able to give feedback. I love feeling insidery. I've had a couple of sites that have been really important to me and have been wonderful in so many ways, but with both of them I felt like I was shouting into the wind when I wanted to have some input into what I needed. Even though I haven't been here long enough to see a suggestion of mine come to fruition, I'm still getting feedback on whether you guys think it's a good idea, and if so, then at least letting me...
