Re: Hoopla Blog suggestions

Lynda ·
Hi! I tried sharing a blog post of ours on Facebook today using the share buttons on the page, and when I tried to, it grabbed the blog poster's werewolf avatar instead of a more suitable image from the site. I had to choose not to show the thumbnail before posting for that reason.

Hello Lynda, This is the same issue as the original author, and we have not made any changes to the OpenGraph elements on the page yet to address this. There is currently no ETA on when we will be applying any changes, though we are still considering approaches which could help solve this issue. Cheers, Jonmark

Hello Melanie, Thanks for your thoughts on 1 and 3 above, we will consider that. For #2, the application will already include the facebook Open Graph metadata tags in the head of any world viewable blog entry, forum topic, calendar event, chat event, clip set, or clip. The important note there is world viewable. If that is not happening for your blog entries that would be a issue. If its not, ould you link me to a blog entry that does not have the proper meta tags so I can investigate?

Re: Hoopla Blog suggestions

The blogs are set to world view. The metadata is limiting---it does include the blog post title; but the OG image is set to our profile pic. I'd really like a way to change that. Every time we share a blog post on FB, the only option for the image is our profile pic (which matches our profile pic on FB). Instead, I'd really like for it to grab images in the blog post itself. So, if the og:image is NOT set, then FB looks for the images on the page and allows you to pick one. Additionally, I...

P.S. I know that descriptions are editable on FB, but I am not the only Page Admin; and I'd like to "set" what is included in the description so that it defaults to that, no matter who shares the page. That's why I originally added og:description to our community header.

Hey Melanie, Thanks for the feedback, we will consider some ways to improve this, though I cannot say what that might be, or when it might find its way into the app. You bring up some great points and we will definitely be having some discussion internally regarding this. Thanks, Jonmark

I'd like to add a #4 to my list. 4) Add a description to each Blog Collection, just as we are able to add a description to the Clip Sets. This will allow us to get more keywords on the page and/or add text that explains that our blogs are open to the public to read, but to add comments one must register. On the same topic, I'd request a greater than 255 character maximum .

Re: Hoopla Blog suggestions

Yes, I really think giving us more ability to customize our blog pages (e.g. apply a specific theme to them; customize the header (title/description or image); etc) would really help. Our collections page could be really great if we could add a description (text and image) for each collection. (Exactly like the Forums Directory; but just have a Blog directory where we could add a description and thumbnail image.) Thanks for all the improvements over the last year and for considering our ...

Hey guys, I can confirm that this is a feature that we are considering for a future release, but we don't have it on the development schedule right now. As a result, I can't give you an ETA as to when it might be available. It might be best if you create a separate topic here for the idea so that others can vote on the specific feature. As it is here (#4 on the list), it might get lost/overlooked by the rest of the community. Brian

Re: Like and Follow buttons

Brian Lenz ·
Hi Wiekus, Hoop.la does already support following and liking individual blog posts, but just not from the full blog list. To do like or follow a blog post, you must visit the blog content page (vs. the blog list that shows multiple blog posts). For example, on your blog: http://wire.hoop.la/blog You can't like or follow individual posts, but if you drill down into a specific blog post: http://wire.hoop.la/blog/433365571499814471 then you can like and follow the blog post. Does that help...

Re: Suggested Blog Improvements

Hi Melanie, 1c is actually already supported. When posting or editing a blog post, you can drag and drop the images into whatever order you choose. The first image will be used as the thumbnail, so you can just put it on top by dragging the attachment box to the top. There's no need to start all over with the upload of attachments. So, there's one idea already supported The rest of your suggestions are all good ideas, but they aren't currently on our near-term development schedule. As...

Re: What is the difference between a blog post and a forum topic?

Lori ·
Hi, Emma: The difference between a blog and a forum topic, on its very basic level, is one-way communication vs. two-way communication. With a blog entry, you are writing an article, perhaps, and even though your members may comment on that article, it's mostly about you sharing information with your members. Blog-writing can also be shared by multiple people, whether it's a hand-picked group of your choice, or all members. A forum topic, on the other hand, is a way to start a discussion, to...

Re: Phantom blog posts

Ted O'Neill ·
Hi Emma- Removing something from the menu does not disable its functionality. To disable a module, you need to go the Structure part of your admin control panel (either for your main site or for a particular group) and disable the module(s) there by unchecking the box for the module(s). (And make sure that you click on the "Update Settings" button after you make your changes). In the example below, I have disabled the Clips and Calendar modules. When you disable a module, it can not be used...

Image-Centric Mode: add background color to titles

Ted O'Neill ·
For your blog posts and clips, we have an "image-centric" mode that displays the title as an overlay on the images, like so: It looks great that way, but some sites like to add background shading to the title text as well, so it looks more like this: To achieve that affect, you'll want to add this CSS to your site: .title-image-title h2, .title-image-title h3 { padding:5px; background-color:rgba(95, 158, 160,0.4); } You can easily change the background color to what you want using the...

Hoopla Blog suggestions

Melanie ·
I have a couple of suggestions for the blogs. 1) Put titles in CDATA or encode characters so they display correctly on RSS. For example, an ampersand is showing up as & amp ; 2) Add a way for us to add Open Graph metadata to make sharing on FB enhanced. Right now, links to our blogs only show the blog post's title; but the description and the image are the OG metadata from our community's theme (OG metadata added to our custom theme header).

Phantom blog posts

Emma Firsten-Kaufman ·
