Blog Post CommentIs it possible to disable comments on a blog and/or close a comment thread that's begun on a blog post?
-
Blog Post CommentHi @Aliza Rosen , yes you can do that. Just "edit" the blog post and disable comments (you should see that on the right side).
-
Blog Post CommentThanks, @Rosemary ONeill . So it has to be done on each individual blog, right? There's no setting to disable it across all blogs?
-
Blog Post CommentRight @Aliza Rosen the ability to comment on blogs is enabled/disabled per blog post right now. However, a workaround would be to use CSS to suppress the comment box, etc. on blogs. If you need help with that, just let me know!

Blog Post CommentCan I get an "amen"?! I quit Facebook quite a while ago, mostly over privacy concerns. But, I was definitely spending more time online in less meaningful ways, and who has time to spend doing meaningless things?
-
Blog Post CommentFirst, let's start with the irony - I just used my Facebook account to post this comment. Its true, FB can and does suck in a lot of ways. It also creates an opportunity for a lot of fake and meaningless interaction. However, it does serve at least one purpose for me in that it does allow me to keep 'light' contact with a lot of people who don't live in my area. Friends from my hometown and friends who have moved. It allows me to keep a sort of dialog open that allows us to easily pickup...

Blog Post CommentThanks for your comments, James. I don't disagree that Facebook has potential to serve a purpose for keeping in touch. My experience has been that while it has that potential, it doesn't typically play out in practice. I typically have used email/IM for those types of "light" contact, instead. I think that Hoop.la has a lot of the tools that are needed to enable networking and community in an effective way. If you haven't already, I'd recommend you check it out (you can set up a free site to...

Blog Post CommentI totally agree with each point of Rosemary. Limited knowledge of things can spoil us. It is better to read widely and try to find out the best you want from it. Our own analysis of things will help us to take a final decision. I'm planning to start a social website on a vCloud Connector server, could you please suggest the positives. Different writers put forward different opinion; some prefers to write only positive but some are totally opposite and only born to think negative. It creates...

I have the greatest of respect for anyone who does...

Blog Post CommentSo right, LOM, and that's another great tip: be ready to admit if you screw up. Thanks for adding that one in there....it's an important one.

Blog Post CommentWas this an offer to be a Community mgr? Lil FYI, the main page video does not show up in IE 9. It's just a red x, unless you hit compatibility mode.
-
Blog Post CommentThat was a generous offer in my email Rosemary, of "one of the coolest, most challenging jobs on earth".(In the email that was sent to everyone who has a watch on Social Strata I would guess). Not sure I can fit in the post of 'community manager' in as I am a full time grandparent these days and looking after my kids is far and away more preferable than a similar job on the UK Big Brother forum.......... Good luck though

Blog Post CommentThanks JC, we'll look into that bug... Little did I know that the way I chose to start this blog entry would confuse so many people! Sorry about that... We're also dealing with a possible notification glitch that sent email notices to a much larger group than it should have. If you received the email notice of this post and didn't want it, we apologize!

Blog Post CommentYou do all that before feeding those kiddies? And you cook! If I am honest It is the Small business feel that attracts me to LiveCloud. Some of the Faceless options out there just turn me off. So from my point of view your "recipe" is very tasty. I would love to know how you manage your Email in box...

Blog Post CommentLOL, but breakfast is usually something "instant." It makes everything so much more fun when we get to know our customers and they become friends. Makes me want to get up at 6am When are you coming back to visit us in the States again? I use my email inbox as a "to do" list. First run through and delete all of the spam (even with filtering, there's a lot). Then respond to the quick items, then go top to bottom for the longer responses. Then read the blogs, deleting the ones I don't need to...

Blog Post CommentWell visiting America/Seattle depends on Elizabeths recovery from this Pemphigoid condition. It is so sensitive that we fear a prolonged flight may antagonise it. However people are supposed to recover so we will see. We would love to Amtrak it from Chicago to Seattle have va few days with you lot again then go back via a different route. Probably expensive but worth it.

Blog Post CommentBrian, it warms my heart to see someone like you, who is very knowledgeable about the tech side of things on the internet, and who is much younger than I am, do something like this. The issues you raised are spot on and have motivated me to do the same thing. I got a Faceplant page about 2 years ago solely for family purposes. I think I have 8 "friends." My daughter was posting pics of the grandkids there at the time. However, due to the privacy concerns you linked to in your post, she has...

Blog Post CommentHi Rich, Thank you for the thoughtful and kind words! It's humbling to hear. I can't believe it's been over 5 years now since I wrote this post and quit Facebook. I can tell you that I've never looked back After a nasty election cycle like this year, I can definitively say I don't miss it at all! Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts; enjoy the Facebook-free life Brian

Blog Post CommentHi Ted, I didn't realize that I needed this until just this past weekend. This is terrific as we stratafy [sic] features to align with incentives. Congratulations on the new logo. I wish we still had the "powered by" image selector for themes." We'd be much happier with a black or dark gray icon to go with our overall grayscale aesthetic. ST
