Today, we rolled out a MAJOR update for Hoop.la that adds support for groups.  Please note that groups are only available as an optional add-on for Pro plans currently.

With groups, Hoop.la sites can support an unlimited number of sub-spaces, each its own set of permissions, content modules, and members.  The ability to create groups is a permission, so group creation could be limited to admins-only or could be made available to all members, if desired.  Each group has its own forums, blog, calendar, clips, etc. and can choose which content modules to enable.

There are three types of supported groups- public, private, and hidden.  Hidden groups are private groups that are excluded from the group directory.

We will post more details about groups later this week and if you are a Pro customer with interest in adding groups to your Hoop.la account, please contact us.

We did make other changes in this release, as well, including:

1.  Improved Member Snapshot

The member snapshot is the popup window you see when you click on the "gingerbread man" icon next to a member's name. It's the quick way of accessing information about a member and taking a specific action, like following them, starting a dialog, blocking, etc.  In addition, admins can view or create notes about the member on this page.  Here is the improved interface:

2.  Enhanced Manage Menu For Admins

We've added another level to this menu, which is really handy for site admins.  Previously, we had a solitary link to the Admin Control Panel here. Now, admins can actually drill down to every major Admin Control Panel section right from this menu, making it much easier to get things done.

3.  New Trending Page For Content

Previously, we added support for sorting content by popularity (trending over X days) via our content widgets.  Now, when you click on "View All" from one of those widgets (and the sorting is set to "trending"), visitors will be able to view the complete "trending list".

There were numerous other minor improvements and bug fixes in this release.
