Maximus MinimusThis afternoon, we had lunch at Maximus Minimus, which operates out of a truck here is Seattle.  It got me thinking about how street food vendors are somewhat analogous to "Web 2.0" companies- small and nimble, transparent, and focused on simplicity without sacrificing quality.

When you approach the truck at Maximus Minimus, a guy greets you with a portable Point-Of-Sale device.  The menu has just two or three options.  Pricing is clear and simple. As you stand there eating, you are helping to inspire passers-by to stop and order as well.  And the food is really good.

Nearby is Qdoba, which I also love, but which fails to draw the consumer in in a proactive manner.  There are no smells, no sense of satisfied customers... plus its  more work since you actually have to walk through a line and give several different servers instructions for each phase of your order.

This is not to say that there is no place for traditional restaurants.  In fact, it's good to be able to sit down and eat a meal comfortably.  But perhaps there are some cues that such restaurants can take from the the more nimble vendors- make it easier to order, keep menus and pricing simple and clear, and make it feel like each meal that is sold is special.

Lessons for any business really.
