There are so many things to admire about this man who endured setback after setback and persevered to become one of our greatest Presidents, but I did a little digging and found some lesser-known Lincoln quotes that are applicable to those of us devoted to community management.

I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it.
--November 2, 1863 Letter to James H. Hackett

When the conduct of men is designed to be influenced, persuasion, kind, unassuming persuasion, should ever be adopted. It is an old and a true maxim, that a "drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall."
--February 22, 1842 Temperance Address

There is no grievance that is a fit object of redress by mob law.
--January 27, 1838 Lyceum Address

Happy birthday Mr. Lincoln!
