Social Strata Transfers Ownership of UBB.threads to Mindraven
Today, Social Strata announced that is has transferred ownership of UBB.threads to Mindraven.  Mindraven owner Rick Baker has been managing the development and support of UBB.threads for 9 years, and this sale represents the final transition to his full ownership.  Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The Ultimate Bulletin Board originated in 1997 as a downloadable freeware Perl message board with a simple interface and admin control panel, the first of its kind.  UBB also introduced automatic emoticons and UBBCode, now standard in all forum software.  Over the years, the product has grown and developed into UBB.threads, one of the most popular downloadable forums that includes a portal page, calendar, photo gallery, and database back-end.

“We’ll always have fond memories of UBB, but we have full confidence that Rick will continue to enhance and develop UBB.threads into a whole new phase of success,” said Ted O’Neill, creator of UBB and CEO of Social Strata.  “This move allows us to focus on our hosted social media platform, Social Enterprise, and gives UBB customers the dedicated attention they deserve.”

Mindraven, formed in 1997, was originally known as Wired Community Software. At the time, it was just a one-man business formed by Rick Baker, who originally created WWWThreads. WWWThreads was sold to Infopop (which is now Social Strata) in 2001 and renamed to UBB.threads. Over the past 9 years Rick has been directly involved with UBB.threads as the primary developer.  With this transition Mindraven has hired several new people to assist with pushing the envelope of community software.

It has been a wild and fun ride that I still don't see an end in sight for both Social Strata and Mindraven. Great bunches of people to work and have fun with on both the hosted and downloadable divisions.
